Apple iPhone: Standortbestimmung ohne GPS

Zur MacWorld Expo Mitte Januar werden Neuigkeiten von Apple erwartet - auch für das iPhone. Das Weblog Gizmodo berichtet von einer neuen Firmware 1.1.3 und veröffentlicht auch ein kurzes Video, das die neue Version des iPhone-Betriebssystems im Einsatz zeigen soll. Neben der Beseitigung von Sicherheitslücken soll es einige neue Funktionen geben.

Neue Firmware zur MacWorld Expo?Auch wenn das iPhone über keinen GPS-Empfänger verfügt, soll es dennoch den aktuellen Standort bestimmen und auf einer Karte von Google Maps anzeigen können. Dies gelingt über die Anpeilung von drei Mobilfunkmasten - allerdings nur ungenau. Auf dem Land ist die Bestimmung des Standorts ungenauer als in der Stadt.

Vorsicht bei gehackten iPhones

Trotz des großen Lobs für die Benutzeroberfläche des iPhones lässt sich diese mit der neuen Firmware verändern. Bookmarks für den Safari-Browser lassen sich mit einem eigenen Icon auf dem Startbildschirm ablegen. Alle Icons lassen sich dort nun auch frei positionieren. Ebenfalls neu ist der Versand von SMS an Gruppen.

Das Erscheinen der neuen Firmware 1.1.3 wurde noch nicht offiziell bestätigt. Es ist aber davon auszugehen, dass iPhones mit einem Hack, der den SIM-Lock entfernt hat, nach einem Update nicht mehr funktionieren werden.
