Vodafone will TV-Frequenzen
Kennen Sie das Überallfernsehen? Durch die Umstellung auf das digitale Fernsehen via DVB-T sind Funkfrequenzen im Bereich um 400 MHz freigeworden. Die will Vodafone-Chef Friedrich Joussen jetzt haben, sagte er in einem Interview mit der Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung (FAZ) - weil es kein Überall-DSL gebe.
Das hört sich im ersten Moment selbstlos an. Wo die Telekom keine DSL-Leitungen legt, gibt es in der Regel auch kein anderes Breitband-Internet - auch nicht per Mobilfunk. Letzteres hat einen guten Grund: Die UMTS-Technik nutzt Frequenzen, bei denen man viel mehr Mobilfunkmasten benötigt, um ein Gebiet abzudecken. Mit den Frequenzen um 400 MHz geht dies besser - und günstiger.

Wie immer, wenn die Wirtschaft etwas haben möchte (und sei es bloß Ruhe), dann erklärt sie eine Selbstverpflichtung. Joussen möchte die Frequenzen nicht geschenkt. Die Mobilfunker sollen sich schließlich verpflichten, entsprechende Breitband-Anschlüsse zur Verfügung zu stellen. Und eine Auktion solle man auch veranstalten.
Aus vier mach drei, mach zwei
Dass dabei so hohe Summen eingenommen werden könnten wie seinerzeit bei der Versteigerung der UMTS-Frequenzen, wird niemals ernsthaft in Betracht ziehen. Netzbetreibern wie E-Plus könnten die mehrere hundert Millionen Euro, die Joussen für möglich hält, jedoch auch schon zu viel sein. Aus vier Netzbetreibern würden dann schnell drei oder zwei.
Die Kombination aus Auktion und Verpflichtung, das Netz bis zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt in Betrieb zu nehmen, ist übrigens gängige Praxis. Bei UMTS hat dies noch funktioniert, bei allen anderen Breitband-Funktechniken bislang nicht.
Richtfunk auf dem Land gescheitert
Ob Richtfunk (WLL) oder Wimax, die Netze stehen entweder noch nicht oder die Lizenzen sind bereits zurückgegeben worden. Gescheitert war man vor allem in den ländlichen Gebieten, die Joussen jetzt im Blick hat. Aber in der Stadt würde er die Zusatzfrequenzen natürlich auch nehmen.
Der Druck, die Netze aufzubauen, käme laut Joussen durch den Wettbewerb. Was er allerdings nicht sagt: In diesem Fall müsste auch in die Infrastruktur doppelt oder dreifach investiert werden. Und das bezahlt letztlich wieder der Kunde.

It is funny how we can gloss over the details and see only a Linux reutrn rate. Maybe the Linux notebooks were cheaper and folks were looking for a bargain on a MS notebook. Much like the news that eeePC notebook buyers were removing Linux to install XP. The noise of a few reutrns insinuates there is a broad Linux quality problem rather than a computer buyer choosing poorly or differently.Today's Linux is as easy to use as any MS or Mac. And a pre-installed Linux usually means that all the problems associated with do-it-yourself installs have been satisfied. Maybe when the PC world is equalized between MS, Mac and Linux the Linux not ready yet mantra will go away. So far Linux has proved it's not fodder for Sharper Image nor for Wal-Mart. I guess the Linux computer will never be an appliance or a typewriter. And I guess people will have to resign to actually looking at what they are buying and be forced to choose. The tech savvy don't have this problem.What's cool is that there are white box laptops that can be pieced together like desktops. For the same price as a mid-priced laptop, you can build a laptop with better specs, then install Linux on it. Same bucks, a little green energy, more bang.
