Sony Ericsson: UIQ ist tot
Das war eine Überraschung: Im Rahmen der Symbian Smartphone Show erklärte Patrick Olsen von Sony Ericsson die Benutzeroberfläche UIQ für das Handy-Betriebssystem Symbian OS für tot. Dies berichtet das Blog All About Symbian.
Überraschend dabei ist, dass Sony Ericsson dies öffentlich erklärt und ganz nebenbei, denn immerhin gehören dem Handy-Entwickler 50 Prozent von UIQ Technology. Symbian UIQ wird auch auf den meisten Smartphones von Sony Ericsson eingesetzt.
Das Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 läuft bereits unter Windows MobileDas Newsportal GSM Arena liefert auch die Begründung: "UIQ hat nicht das Interesse der Netzbetreiber, der Hersteller oder der Nutzer geweckt, das notwendig gewesen wäre", so Sony Ericsson.
In Nokias Schatten
UIQ ist neben Nokias S60 die zweite und weniger erfolgreiche Benutzeroberfläche für Symbian OS. Mit der gerade erschienenen Version für Touchscreens, Symbian S60 5th Edition, hat UIQ nun auch diesen Vorteil gegenüber S60 verloren.
Zudem möchte Nokia das Betriebssystem Symbian OS in großen Schritten vorantreiben - ähnlich wie Google dies mit Android getan hat. UIQ würde dann nur noch eine Benutzeroberfläche unter vielen sein.
Windows Mobile auf dem Xperia X1
Erste Anzeichen, dass Sony Ericsson sich bereits von Symbian UIQ verabschiedet hat, ist der Einsatz von Windows Mobile auf seinem aktuellen Smartphone Xperia X1 sowie das Nichterscheinen des Sony Ericsson P5 Paris.
Magnus Andersson, Produktmanager für das Xperia X1, sagte vor einem Monat noch, dass die Marke an keine spezielle technische Plattform gebunden sei - also weder an Windows Mobile noch an Symbian UIQ.
Von Motorola, dem zweiten Anteilseigner an UIQ Technology, wird nicht erwartet, dass der Hersteller UIQ in Eigenregie am Leben erhält.

Sure, you can touch it but that's not why I want the iPhone. I want it because of the iretnface, the fact that it works seamlessly with my Mac etc.The iretnface mainly. People seem to forget that the iretnface is MORE important than the actual phone itself, because although you might look at the case every now and then, 99% of your time spent using your phone will be spent staring directly into the iretnface.And if that iretnface can scroll with the flick of a finger and be as beautiful as the one Apple has created, then you've won me over.So: HTC Touch? Not bad. But no thanks, I'm waiting for iPhone.(Although the price is pretty painful so I might be waiting a while before it becomes sensible to buy it.)
